People still treat it as an investment because they expect someone else will pay more. That can happen for a long time. It can also . Those are different risks from owning Microsoft.
If someone says a coin is “backed by” a company, read slowly. Sometimes they mean a used on a network the company helped build. That is still not equity unless it is actually stock.
