A social app is not the bank

People mash three things into one word. X is a social app (the service formerly named Twitter; the 2022 change of control is a public record). X Payments LLC is a fintech company — NMLS ID 2404946, 1450 Page Mill Rd., Palo Alto, CA 94304 on its public licenses page. Cross River Bank is a New Jersey state-chartered commercial bank, Member FDIC, 2115 Linwood Avenue, Fort Lee, NJ 07024. Nominative: X, X Money, X Payments, and Cross River stay with their owners. We are not them. We do not hold deposits. We do not run that app.

X Money is a product name. It is the glass. The bank is the shop that can hold a deposit. The fintech is the company that talks to the bank and to state licenses. Mixing them is how a pitch sells a logo as a vault. In this classroom they stay three.

X Payments LLC’s own licenses page says it is not a bank. The product FAQ says the same. When a page says “your money on X,” the classroom sentence is: a claim on a partner bank, shown inside an app. Usefulness is not the same sentence as “the app is the insurer.”

Human: if your cousin says “I put my paycheck in X,” you can now ask which animal holds the claim. Then you can still refuse a signup from this desk. Look. Do not buy. Not a bank. Not a broker.
