Foreign exchange, in classroom words, is the market where one unit of account is another. EURUSD, in the usual quote, is how many U.S. dollars for one euro. The first name is the base. The second is the quote. Flip them and the number flips. That is arithmetic, not a personality.

Foreign exchange, in classroom words, is the market where one unit of account is another. EURUSD, in the usual quote, is how many U.S. dollars for one euro. The first name is the base. The second is the quote. Flip them and the number flips. That is arithmetic, not a personality.

Nominative: euro stays with the Eurosystem’s public story; dollar stays with the United States. We do not issue either. A teaching on this board is looking. It is not a deal you can hit, and it is not a central-bank .

People say “the dollar” as if it were a stock. A unit of account is a public habit. A pair is a relative price. Mixing them is how a person “buys the dollar” and then meets a pair they did not name.

Human: if you cannot say which two names sit in the quote, you are still looking at a sticker. Sit with the pair. Look. Do not buy. Not an FX desk.
